Does it work on objects or just people?

This tool uses a selfie segmentation model optimised for people. For photos of animals or objects the results may be poor.

Why does it need to download a model?

The AI model (~2 MB) is downloaded once from Google's CDN the first time you use the tool, then cached in your browser for future visits.
